Loft Life retaliated by deciding they were re-pricing the job and adding extras for things they had done without discussion let alone discussion about a change in price. This information was sent to me by text the day before the windows and doors were due to arrive - also stated that if we didn't agree to pay them more they wouldn't install windows and doors. We weren't going to be blackmailed by them so ended up paying another builder to install.
We had so many problems with the 'project manager' and his labourer and tried to contact Spencer on a number of occasions to discuss, but he didn't get back to us despite this being his company!
It sounds a bit petty when you list them, but put together it made for a very unpleasant experience:
Where the steels were supposed to be bricked in they didn't bother doing this - they, however, assured us it was done, but when we looked into the party walls it was clear they had lied and this wasn't done. On our second request they did eventually do this.
Parts of the ceiling above the hallway were left uninsulated and again, they lied that this had been done, but it was clearly visible that it wasn't and we had to request yet again that it was done.
The first day they walked into our home, I told them I didn't want standard windows, so let me know when they needed to discuss so it wouldn't hold things up - I assumed they were the professionals so I didn't push but it turned out they should have ordered upfront to avoid some of the delay.
We went on holiday during the work and when we got back saw that instead of the roof lights we had requested they had installed something different - no consultation and when I asked what had happened they said they were more expensive than what we had requested so we should be happy with them!
In general they were very disrespectful and left their mess everywhere, including drinks bottles filled with their urine which were shoved into the eaves and left for us to clean up. All rubble was just swept between floor joists rather than cleaned out.
The plumbing was awful and had to be re-done. We were left with pipes sticking out from the sink and the waste boxed in beside the toilet - however, when we got someone in to finish the job, he moved everything back into the partition wall making it much more aesthetically pleasing.
The fire painting of the door was beyond a joke - they literally dabbed a few bits here and there and left the door looking a mess and obviously not fire resistant.
I could go on but you get the idea.
